GENERAC 18/17KW AIR-COOLED STANDBY GENERATOR, ALUM ENCLOSURE

This was my third Generac purchase but my first from Acme Tools and I could not have been more satisfied. I contacted Acme initially after delivery to report a dent/scratch on back panel caused during shipping and was immediately refunded the amount necessary for replacement panel. One month later, I contacted them again because the initially reported damage had also resulted in damage to the wi-fi module that was not discovered until installation. After providing pictures, Acme once again refunded the amount necessary to replace the module. It should be noted they also provided for repair labor costs for both parts.

I bought this in June and used my Amazon credit card with 18 months interest free. It sat for a while by the breaker outside. I had it finally installed this month and up and running yesterday. Delivery was easy. It comes on a large box truck and they'll put it where you want it as long as the truck can get there. Expect at least another $2,000.00 to $4,000.00 for installation and about six hours of the power being cut off while it is installed. Mine was $3,400.00 which included site preparation, the Generac pad, and installation. The LP tank, installation and trenching (free with purchase of gas), and first filling of gas cost an extra $800.00. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but I chose to not do this myself. I did have a separate LP tank brought out so the generator did not use my heat and water heater source. Some things I wish was readily available on a chart or something up front: 1) oil is 5W-30 synthetic and it takes 1.9 quarts 2) it came full of oil with oil and air filter 3) it did not come with the battery and the battery size was 29 group but I used a 52 group I think (whatever size is in my 2001 Honda Civic) as it was around and fit perfectly 4) the oil filter is Generac 070185B 5) the air filter is OJ8478S 5) the battery is installed on the right side by taking three bolts (torx bit) off (two on top and one at the base) 6) switch it to LP by pushing and turning the knob on the carburetor so it goes upside down. Also, the app is convenient but make sure your wifi signal is nearby as it has to link to the wifi to get the device activated. Before you setup the app you'll need the serial number from the switch and generator and the MAC ID off the generator which is on the front of the unit behind the front cover. The switch serial is under the panel on the steel where the lines are routed. Take pictures to make it easy. The app also defaults to texting, emailing, and pushing notifications so I went in and changed it. The app is free but limited. It takes $49.99 a year to unlock al the features. When mine first started up it said there was no utility power. After spending an hour frustrated and calling the electrician complaining, it was one fuse on the board (of 3) that was bad. I pulled it and tested the continuity and it was bad. They are ceramic so you can't tell by just looking at them. It had one spare in there and I swapped it in which fixed it. Go ahead and order a pack of them. They are 6.3 amp ceramic fuses.

Bought this for my in-laws, they loose power in a slight breeze.. It was $1000 cheaper than local retail. We did have it professionally installed. It arrived by truck in 3 days.

For our homes and ranch, Generac is the best system and value on the market. We have 5 Generac generators, and some for more than 15 years without a failure. We strongly recommend you have professionals install your system. if like us, you may find that local resources may charge 3-times the cost of Amazon pricing.

Same day I was called by the seller reference shipping and the next day it was in route. Generator arrived before expected and is what was advertised.

I live in SE Texas, where storms, invariably, knock out power with great frequency. My portable generator has serve me well, but is limited on the load it can manage. The Generac doesn’t seem to have a load limit! Everything in the home is managed well with the system, including the a/c units. I only wish that I had purchased it sooner.

This generator is of high quality and has come in quite handy. It is very quite when it runs. Sounds like a car idling in you driveway. I get a monthly report from Generac on my generator's status. For my husband's medical machines this unit has given me peace of mind.

Hired an electrical contractor to install generator and the transfer box.
Generator started on first attempt and ran better than our old system.
Generac service personnel gave us the initial start code to activate generator.
Note the electrical contractor I used is also a Generac Authorized Dealer.

This is a great product. I had a qualified person to help install this unit. It was a little more involved because have two meters and the install required two automatic switches and some wiring issues to sync them together. Two days ago we had a major power outage and it work worked perfect without any issues. The system worked completely automatically with smooth transitions. I've waited some time to write this review because I was waiting for this to happen so I could validate an true test. Can't say enough what a great relief it has been having this unit. Worth the money, time and effort.

I had a professional electrician install my generator. I works great. It has an app that tells you when it tests itself and how long it has run for the month. It has only kicked on once during a storm. Cranked up within seconds of the electricity going off. Runs my entire house and two AC Units. Great peace of mind.
